Searching for husband's father

Postby cpritchard » Tue April 21 2009 02:12 PM

My husband's father was a trombonist for Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey bands and then moved on to Ray Bloch and the Jackie Gleason show. His name was Billy Pritchard (he's now deceased), but was hoping someone could tell me where I can get information (pics or news clips) about a band member from that time (1940's-50's). Thanks for any assistance!

Postby jazzjester » Sun April 26 2009 10:14 PM

Hi,

Here are the sessions within the jazz genre that Mr. Prichard participated in. Quite a list and your husband should be very proud. Note they are in chronological order. Of particular interest are the recordings with Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O'Day. Many of the recordings in this list are readily available on CD. The Jimmy Dorsey sessions from the 400 Resaraunt is great stuff as well.

As far as press clippings your best bet are old Downbeat and Metronome Magazines.

Hope this helps.

All the best.

Jeff Parker
