Les McCann is known to us here at the Jazz Joint as a swinging pianist… But actually rose to fame in 1956 by winning a talent contest in the Navy for his singing… that resulted in an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. McCann reached the peak of his career at the 1968 Montreux Jazz Festival, performing with saxophonist Eddie Harris "Compared to What" and "Cold Duck Time"
