Jazz drummer Colin Bailey born this week in 1935. He worked with Jimmy Witherspoon early in his career and later with Goodman, Victor Feldman, Della Reese, Julie London and others. He is probably best known to many as the drummer behind pianist Vince Guaraldi in the 1960s.

French music publisher and record producer Francis Dreyfus died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the age of 70.

His love of jazz led to the creation of the Dreyfus Jazz label which brought together such major jazz figures as Michel Petrucciani, Richard Galliano, Biréli Lagrène, Aldo Romano, Marcus Miller, Ahmad Jamal, Roy Haynes, Philip Catherine, and Steve Grossman.

He was especially proud of having produced the "Jazz Reference," series which assembled legendary recordings of classic jazz and bebop, restored through a unique technological process developed with his friend, sound engineer, René Ameline.
