June 15th Erroll Garner – piano, songwriter. Born; Pittsburgh Pa., 1921. Erroll Garner is one of the truly great and gifted improvisers in Jazz history. In fact it was his great and gifted natural talent that made him impatient with the tortures of music study. Garner never learned to read music; he instead relied upon a gifted sense of rhythm, harmony, hearing, and inventiveness, often creating impressionistic intros to Jazz standards recognizable to most only at his own well-timed choosing.
