8-6-2006 (Benny Carter two-hour tribute)

Postby jazzjester » Sun August 06 2006 09:04 PM

This was the Jazz Joint Jump Benny Carter birthday tribute show. Benny Carter was a monster in the world of jazz. In my totally biased opinion one of the greatest, and certainly the most underated, contributors to the genre... ever.

Benny Carter all tracks in one capacity or another either as alto man, trumpet man, tenor man (yes tenor!) composer, arranger, conductor or session leader. The only discrepency is Chick Webb's recording of Liza. Obviously a Carter arrangement but incorrectly listed in the Lord Jazz Discography as a Van Alexander arrangement. "Sue me if I played it wrong!"
